Product description examples for electronics

An electronics description is read by someone holding another device: will it work with what I own, what will it actually do, and what do I get when I open the box? Below are seven before-and-after descriptions from different stores (earbuds, chargers, refurbished laptops, phone cases, smart bulbs, cables) and the rules that produce them for a whole catalog.

We connect your store, build the feed and keep it in sync. Updated 2026-10-27.

At a glance

  • Specs as numbers with units: battery hours, wattage, resolution, storage, connection standard. "Long battery life" is not a spec.
  • Compatibility as an explicit list: the models, operating systems or standards it works with, and the common ones it does not.
  • What is in the box, item by item, including what is not: a charger sold without a cable is the classic one-star review.
  • These three facts belong in product fields, so a template prints them exactly and the same text reaches Google Shopping, Amazon and Meta.

Compatibility statements that do not backfire

  • Name exact models, not families: "iPhone 15" is not "iPhone 15 Pro", and cases, screen protectors and batteries fail on that difference.
  • Name the standard as well as the device: USB Power Delivery 3.0, Qi2, HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6. Shoppers with an unlisted device can check the standard.
  • State the limits: a 65 W charger runs a laptop that wants 100 W, slowly. Saying so prevents the return.
  • Keep compatibility in its own field. A template can then print it consistently and a filter can hold back products where it is missing.

Electronics descriptions in a product feed

Electronics is the vertical where identifiers carry the most weight: a correct gtin and mpn let Google match your listing to the product it already knows, and brand is required for new products. The description then adds what the identifier cannot: your bundle, your condition, your warranty.

Google Shopping takes a plain-text description up to 5,000 characters and product_highlight, between 2 and 100 short highlights of up to 150 characters each, which suits a spec list. Refurbished and used devices must send condition, and the description should say what refurbished means for that unit: grade, battery health, what was replaced and what ships with it.

Worked examples, by situation

Seven electronics stores with different products and channels. Each after-text states specs, compatibility and box contents; the how names the rule.

Audio · Google Shopping, US · 400 SKUs

Wireless earbuds: the spec sheet in a paragraph

Before

Immersive sound and all-day comfort. Your music, unleashed.

After

True wireless earbuds with active noise cancelling. 8 hours per charge (6 with ANC), 32 hours with the case; 10 minutes of charging adds 1 hour. Bluetooth 5.3 with AAC and SBC, multipoint for two devices; works with iPhone and Android. In the box: earbuds, case, 50 cm USB-C cable, S/M/L tips. No wall charger included.

How we set it up

We set up an AI config that enhances the description, reading title and description with battery, codec, connection and in_box attributes as additional context, and map description with replace from AI config; the product_highlight columns are renames from the battery, codec and connection fields, one highlight each.

Charging accessories · Amazon · 2,000 SKUs

65 W charger: compatibility and the missing cable

Before

Fast charger for all your devices!

After

65 W USB-C wall charger with two ports (USB-C and USB-A), USB Power Delivery 3.0 and PPS. Charges most USB-C laptops up to 65 W, iPhone 15 and later at full speed, Samsung phones with Super Fast Charging. Shares 45 W + 20 W when both ports are used. In the box: charger only; USB-C cable sold separately.

How we set it up

We map description with an advanced rule: [Title] + ". " + [specs] + ". Compatible with " + [compatibility] + ". In the box: " + [in_box] + "." Every charger prints the same structure, so a missing in_box value shows up as an empty sentence in the product explorer.

Refurbished laptops · Google Shopping, condition refurbished · 250 SKUs

Refurbished laptop: what refurbished means here

Before

Like new! Great laptop at a great price.

After

Refurbished 14-inch laptop, Intel Core i5 (12th gen), 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 1920 x 1080 display. Grade A: no visible marks at arm's length. Battery tested at 88% of original capacity; keyboard replaced. Windows 11 Pro, freshly installed. In the box: laptop and a compatible 65 W USB-C charger (not original). 12-month warranty.

How we set it up

We give condition the static value refurbished; description is an advanced rule combining [specs], the grade line and [battery_health] from a merged source (the refurbisher's test sheet keyed on serial-based SKU), so each unit states its own tested battery figure. Every unit needs a row in that sheet, or its description mapping fails.

Phone cases · Meta catalog ads · 3,000 SKUs

Case: exact model, nothing implied

Before

Slim protective case for iPhone.

After

Clear case for iPhone 15 (6.1-inch). Not compatible with iPhone 15 Plus, Pro or Pro Max. Built-in magnets for MagSafe chargers and wallets; 1.2 mm raised edge around the camera. Polycarbonate back with TPU sides. In the box: one case.

How we set it up

We map description with an advanced rule that inserts [compatible_model] and [not_compatible] from the supplier's fitment sheet, merged by SKU; every case needs a row in that sheet, or its description mapping fails. An exclude filter on compatible_model is blank keeps any case without an exact model out of the catalog.

Smart home · Google Shopping, Germany · 180 SKUs, German copy

Smart bulb translated, ecosystems listed

Before

Smart LED bulb E27, color. Works with app.

After

How we set it up

We set up an AI config that enhances the description with target language German, passing socket, lumen, color range, ecosystems and in_box as additional context. The German feed maps description from the AI config and uses only accepted generations; the English text is the fallback.

Cables · Google Shopping · 4,800 SKUs

HDMI cables: templated, because the specs are the product

Before

High quality HDMI cable 2m.

After

Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable, 2 m, 48 Gbps. Supports 4K at 120 Hz and 8K at 60 Hz, eARC and HDR. Braided jacket, gold-plated connectors. Works with game consoles, TVs and PCs with HDMI ports. In the box: one cable.

How we set it up

We map description with an advanced rule: "Ultra High Speed HDMI " + [hdmi_version] + " cable, " + [length] + ", " + [bandwidth] + ". " + [features] + ". In the box: one cable." For near-identical variants a template is exact, consistent and does not use AI capacity.

Cameras · Google Shopping, body-only and kit variants · 140 SKUs

Box contents that change with the variant

Before

Mirrorless camera, 24 MP. Available as body only or as a kit.

After

Body only: … In the box: camera body, battery, USB-C cable, strap, body cap. No lens included.
Kit: … In the box: camera body, battery, USB-C cable, strap, 18-55 mm lens with front and rear caps.

How we set it up

We map description with an advanced rule: if [Option1] equals "Kit" then [description] + " In the box: " + [box_body] + ", 18-55 mm lens with front and rear caps." else [description] + " In the box: " + [box_body] + ". No lens included." Each variant also keeps its own gtin, since kit and body are different products to Google.

Copy this plan

Plan: electronics descriptions for a whole catalog

Fill the spec, compatibility and box fields first; then template or generate.

  1. 01

    Check identifiers and spec fields

See how many products have gtin, mpn, brand and the spec columns filled, and which values are malformed.

What we set up: We run feed hygiene's completeness check on identifiers and spec columns.
  2. 02

Join the supplier's spec and fitment data

Compatibility lists and box contents usually live in the supplier's sheet. Join it by SKU or mpn.

What we set up: We join the supplier's Google Sheet or CSV as a merged source, keyed on SKU.
  3. 03

Template the products where specs are the product

Cables, chargers, memory cards and cases: build the description from fields so every number is exact.

What we set up: We write the description as an advanced rule from your spec fields.
  4. 04

    Generate and review the rest

Headphones, speakers and smart devices read better written. Pass the spec fields as context and accept the generations after checking the numbers.

What we set up: We set up an AI config that enhances descriptions and check the numbers in the generations with you before accepting them.
  5. 05

    Hold back incomplete listings

Exclude products that have no compatibility or identifier data from the channels where that causes returns or rejections.

What we set up: We add an exclude filter with is blank on the compatibility or identifier column, per channel.

Customization tips

Make it yours

Template the numbers, check the AI

AI writes fluent copy but can round 48 Gbps to "up to 50". Where the numbers are the selling point, use a template or read every generation before accepting it. Templates read flatter; that is the trade.

Say what is not in the box

One sentence about the missing cable or charger costs nothing and prevents the most common electronics complaint. Keep it in a dedicated field so it never gets dropped from a rewrite.

Use the identifier, then add your value

With a valid gtin, Google already knows the product's basic specs. Spend the description on what differs at your store: bundle, warranty, condition, local plug type.

Compatibility in a field, not buried in prose

A compatible_model column lets a template print it, a filter require it and a translator keep it intact. Prose-only compatibility gets lost the first time someone rewrites the copy.

FAQ

Questions about product description examples for electronics

What should an electronics product description include?

Specifications with units (battery life, power, resolution, storage, connection standard), compatibility with named devices, systems or standards, what is in the box and what is not, and the warranty. Brand, gtin and mpn belong in their own feed fields.

How do you write compatibility in a product description?

List exact models and the standard behind them, for example "iPhone 15 (6.1-inch); USB Power Delivery 3.0", then state the near misses that do not work, such as the Plus or Pro models. Keep the list in a product field so it stays consistent.

Should I describe refurbished electronics differently?

Yes. Send condition refurbished in the feed and say in the description what that means for the unit: cosmetic grade, tested battery capacity, replaced parts, whether accessories are original, and the warranty.

Can descriptions for thousands of electronics SKUs be automated?

Yes. Products defined by their specs, such as cables and chargers, are best built from fields with a template. Products that need explanation can be generated with an AI config that reads the spec fields, with each generation reviewed before the feed uses it.
