AI product description generator for whole catalogs

A product description generator reads the facts you have about a product (name, category, brand, material, specs) and writes the paragraph a shopper reads. Below are real before/after descriptions from four kinds of store and three languages, so you can judge the output. There is no free one-product box on this page: Textfinity generates descriptions for every product in a catalog, keeps them in step when products change, and puts them into your channel feeds after you review them.

We connect your store, build the feed and keep it in sync. Updated 2026-10-27.

At a glance

  • A generator is only as good as its inputs: give it category, brand, material and specs, not just a product name, or it fills the gaps with generic phrases.
  • Google Shopping descriptions can be up to 5,000 characters; the first 160 to 500 carry the weight. No price, shipping, store name, links, capitals for emphasis or comparisons.
  • Textfinity's AI configs write a 500 to 1,000 character description per product from the fields chosen, optionally in another language, and only reviewed text reaches the feed.
  • We set up the AI configs in Textfinity for you, and the software keeps generating as products are added or changed; pricing is quoted per catalog after a short call.

What a product description generator does with your data

Every AI description tool works the same way: product facts in, prose out. The model turns 'Linen, relaxed fit, sand' into sentences about how the shirt wears. What it cannot do is know facts you did not give it. Ask for a description from a product name alone and you get confident filler ('perfect for any occasion') or, worse, invented specs.

So the first question is which fields, not which generator. A good input set is the store title, the existing description (even a thin one), the category, the brand, and two to five attributes that matter in the vertical: material and fit for clothing, dimensions and finish for furniture, battery and model for electronics, skin type and volume for beauty.

Rules a generated description has to pass on each channel

  • Google Shopping: 1 to 5,000 characters, most important details in the first 160 to 500. No price, sale, shipping or store name, no links, no capitals for emphasis, no comparisons with other products.
  • Google and AI text: Google asks that AI-written descriptions be submitted in structured_description with the digital source type trained_algorithmic_media. Textfinity maps generated text into a plain column today and does not add that prefix, so check Google's current guidance for your account.
  • Meta catalog: up to 9,999 characters of plain text, no links, no all-caps.
  • Every channel: consistent with the title and the landing page.

How Textfinity's AI configs generate descriptions

An AI config is a saved rule set on a shop. It names the source fields the model reads (title, description, category, manufacturer, plus any extra attributes as additional context), the action Enhance Description, and optionally a target language such as German, French, Swedish, Dutch, Italian or Polish. A filter can limit the config to the products that need it, such as descriptions shorter than 200 characters. Spanish and non-European languages are not available.

The config runs over the catalog in batches of up to 50 products per job. Generated descriptions wait in a review queue: accept one by one, edit, or accept all. In the feed, replace from AI config uses accepted text and falls back to the original description, so no product goes out blank. Editing the config creates a new revision and regenerates the products. Processing runs on EU infrastructure.

AI product descriptions for Shopify stores and other platforms

Shopify connects natively, and product metafields arrive as attributes, so material, care or size-chart metafields can go straight into the additional context. WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop and BigCommerce stores connect through a CSV export or a Google-shaped XML feed on a URL or SFTP server. Textfinity does not write descriptions back into the store; they go into the feeds for Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok and the other channels.

Examples

Worked examples, by situation

Four stores, four input problems. Each 'after' is the kind of text an AI config produces from the fields shown.

Fashion · Google Shopping · 1,800 variants · Shopify, English

From a one-line description to one that answers fit and care

Before

title: Relaxed Linen Shirt
description: 100% linen.
fit: Relaxed, dropped shoulder · color: Sand
details: mother-of-pearl buttons, chest pocket
care: machine wash cold

After

A relaxed-fit shirt in 100% linen that softens with every wash. The dropped shoulder sits loose without looking oversized, and the sand tone works over swimwear or with tailored trousers. Mother-of-pearl buttons and a single chest pocket. Machine wash cold and line dry; linen creases naturally, so a quick steam restores the drape.

How we set it up

We set up an AI config with Enhance Description; source fields title, description and category, with fit, color, details and care as additional context. description uses replace from AI config, fallback description.

Electronics · Google and Microsoft Shopping · 3,000 SKUs · CSV, English

Spec fragments into a description that leads with the use

Before

title: ANC-1 BT Over-Ear Headphones
description: BT 5.3; 40h; ANC; USB-C; 250g
manufacturer: Soundline

After

Soundline ANC-1 wireless over-ear headphones with active noise cancelling for commutes and open-plan offices. Bluetooth 5.3 for a stable wireless connection and up to 40 hours of listening on one charge. Charges over USB-C and weighs 250 g, light enough to wear through a long flight.

How we set it up

We set up an AI config with title, description and manufacturer as source fields and the filter description is shorter than 120. Longer store descriptions are left alone.

Furniture · Meta catalog, France · 600 SKUs · English store

An English HTML description into French plain text

Before

<p><strong>Oak dining table</strong>, 180 x 90 cm. Solid oak, oiled finish. Seats 6.</p>

After

Table à manger en chêne massif, 180 x 90 cm, finition huilée. Une table pour six personnes, pensée pour les repas de tous les jours. La finition à l'huile fait ressortir le veinage naturel du chêne et se renouvelle facilement au fil des années.

How we set it up

We set up an AI config: Enhance Description with translation French, source fields title, description and category; the output is plain text even though the source has HTML. The French Meta feed maps description with replace from AI config, with the English description as fallback until each product is accepted.

Beauty · Google Shopping, Sweden · 400 SKUs · Swedish store

Promotional copy out, product facts in

Before

description: BÄSTSÄLJARE!!! Fri frakt idag. Lumen ansiktskräm 50 ml.
hudtyp: normal till torr · ingrediens: hyaluronsyra
parfym: nej · förpackning: pump

After

Återfuktande ansiktskräm med hyaluronsyra för normal till torr hud. Parfymfri och förpackad i en 50 ml pump som skyddar krämen från luft. Används morgon och kväll på ren hud.

How we set it up

We set up an AI config with Enhance Description and no translation; generation keeps the source language, so Swedish in, Swedish out. Skin type, ingredient, fragrance and packaging go in as additional context. The output drops the capitals and the shipping claim Google rejects.

Plan: descriptions for the whole catalog this week

  1. 01

    Send us the catalog

Shopify natively, or a CSV or Google-shaped XML export on a URL or SFTP server.

What we set up: We connect the store or export URL.
  2. 02

Find the products that need new descriptions

Read completeness and length for the description column. Empty and very short descriptions are where generation pays off first.

What we set up: We read feed hygiene's field completeness and length distribution for the description column.
  3. 03

    Decide what the generator reads

Pick the source fields and two to five additional-context attributes, decide on a target language if this is for another market, and limit generation to the products from step 2.

What we set up: We set up the AI config: source product data, Enhance Description, translation and a filter.
  4. 04

    Review the generations

Read a sample per product type, edit what is wrong, then accept. Only accepted text reaches a feed.

What we set up: We go through the pending generations with you and accept them one by one or with Accept all.
  5. 05

Map the text into each feed

Use the generated description with the original as fallback. Repeat for each channel feed that should carry it.

What we set up: We map description with replace from AI config, fallback description, in each channel feed.
  6. 06

Publish and check in the channel

The feed rebuilds and the channel fetches it on its schedule. Disapprovals are read in Merchant Center or Commerce Manager, outside Textfinity.

Customization tips

Make it yours

Spend your context on facts, not adjectives

Additional-context attributes such as material, dimensions or skin type turn into concrete sentences. Leaving them out saves nothing and produces the generic copy shoppers skip.

Accept all only after a real sample

Accept all is fast and fine for uniform catalogs. For mixed catalogs read ten products per category first; a wrong material in one category usually means a missing input, which is fixed in the config, not by editing hundreds of texts.

Translate or enhance, not always both

If the source descriptions are good, a translation config keeps their structure and length. Enhance with translation rewrites as it translates, which suits thin source copy but changes text you may have been happy with.

FAQ

Questions about product description generator

Is there a free AI product description generator in Textfinity?

No. Textfinity does not offer a free single-product generator. AI descriptions run inside AI configs that we set up on your catalog in Textfinity, and the price is quoted per catalog after a short call.

Can AI write product descriptions for a whole Shopify store?

Yes. We connect the store and set up an AI config that reads the fields you choose; it generates descriptions for every product, or a filtered subset, in batches. New and changed products are picked up automatically. Textfinity puts the text into channel feeds; it does not write it back into Shopify.

Are AI-generated product descriptions allowed in Google Shopping?

Yes, if they follow the description rules: plain product facts, no promotional text, links or comparisons, up to 5,000 characters. Google asks that AI-written text be submitted in structured_description with the digital source type trained_algorithmic_media; check that requirement for your account before scaling.

Which languages can the descriptions be generated in?

English and most European languages, including German, French, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Danish, Finnish and Norwegian. Spanish and non-European languages are not available.

How long should a product description be?

For Google Shopping, long enough to cover what the product is, its key specs and who it suits, with those details in the first 160 to 500 characters. Textfinity's AI configs aim for 500 to 1,000 characters, well inside Google's 5,000 and Meta's 9,999.
