Product description examples for furniture
Furniture shoppers cannot sit on the sofa or measure the table, so a furniture description has three jobs: say exactly how big it is, what it is made of, and what arrives at the door and how long it takes to put together. Below are six before-and-after descriptions from different stores and channels, followed by the dimension checklist and a plan to produce them for every SKU.
We connect your store, build the feed and keep it in sync. Updated 2026-10-27.
At a glance
- Dimensions answer "will it fit?": overall width, depth and height, plus the one measurement that matters for the piece (seat height, clearance underneath, mattress size, largest box).
- Materials answer "will it last?": solid wood or veneer over board, the species, the finish, the fabric and how it wears.
- Assembly answers "what happens on delivery day?": arrives assembled or flat-packed, number of boxes, tools included, time and people needed, wall fixing.
- Each of those facts should live in a product field, so one template or AI config writes them for every size and finish instead of a copywriter retyping them.

The dimensions a furniture description needs
- Overall width x depth x height, in the market's units first. US shoppers think in inches, European shoppers in centimeters; listing both costs one bracket.
- The use measurement: seat height and depth for seating, clearance under a coffee table for a robot vacuum, mattress size for a bed frame, internal depth for a wardrobe that must take a hanger.
- Access: the largest box or the narrowest dimension when assembled, so the buyer can check stairs and doorways before ordering.
- Load: maximum weight per shelf or per seat, stated as a number, not "sturdy".
- Weight of the piece when it matters: a desk that will be moved, a chair that stacks.
Furniture descriptions in a product feed
On the product page, dimensions often sit in a separate tab or an image of a line drawing. Neither reaches Google Shopping or a Meta catalog: the feed description is plain text, up to 5,000 characters for Google and 9,999 for Meta. If the dimensions are not in that text, the ad and the free listing go out without them.
Google also accepts product_detail, up to 100 section, attribute and value triples ("Dimensions, Width, 180 cm"), which is a cleaner home for measurements than prose. Use both: the key size in the first sentence of the description, the full set in product_detail.
Examples
Worked examples, by situation
Six furniture stores, six different pieces and channels. Each after-text covers dimensions, materials and assembly; the how shows where the facts came from.
Dining table: one template, every size
Before
The Alder table brings warmth to any dining room. Handcrafted with love.
After
Alder dining table, 71 x 35 in (180 x 90 cm), 29.5 in high; seats six. Solid European oak top, 1.6 in thick, natural hard-wax oil finish. Legs bolt on with eight bolts and the included Allen key: two people, about 20 minutes. Ships in two boxes.
How we set it up
We map description with an advanced rule: [Title] + " dining table, " + [size_in] + " (" + [size_cm] + "), " + [height_in] + " high; seats " + [seats] + ". " + [material] + ". " + [assembly]. The inch columns come from a merged Google Sheet keyed on SKU (every product needs a row there, or the expression fails): calc{} can convert a single number (round(calc{[height_cm] / 2.54}, 1) gives 29.5 from 75 cm), but it reads only the first number in a value, and "180 x 90 cm" holds two.
Sofa: will it get through the door?
Before
Sink into our cloud-like three-seater. Pure comfort.
After
Three-seat sofa, 214 x 96 cm, 84 cm high, seat height 44 cm and seat depth 58 cm. Fits through a 76 cm doorway with the legs off. Recycled polyester bouclé rated at 40,000 Martindale rubs; covers zip off for dry cleaning. Kiln-dried pine frame. Screw-in legs, no tools needed.
How we set it up
We set up an AI config that enhances the description, reading title and description with width, depth, height, seat height, seat depth, doorway, fabric and frame attributes as additional context, and map description with replace from AI config, store description as fallback until generations are accepted.
Wardrobe: assembly stated before it is a surprise
Before
Spacious two-door wardrobe in oak effect.
After
Two-door wardrobe, 100 x 58 x 200 cm, internal depth 55 cm for standard hangers. Particleboard with oak-effect foil, steel hanging rail, two adjustable shelves. Flat-packed in 3 boxes; assembly about 2 hours for two people. Must be fixed to the wall: fixings included, wall plugs depend on your wall.
How we set it up
We give description a condition: if product_type includes Wardrobe → advanced: [dimensions_line] + " " + [material_line] + " Must be fixed to the wall: fixings included."; else advanced with the generic flat-pack sentence. One transform per branch, so the whole sentence is built in one expression.
Teak bench: material and what it does outdoors
Before
Elegant garden bench for summer relaxing.
After
Three-seat garden bench, 150 x 62 x 90 cm, seat height 45 cm, holds up to 360 kg. Grade-A plantation teak, unfinished: weathers to a silver grey in a season, or keep the honey color with teak oil twice a year. Arrives assembled; can stay outside all year.
How we set it up
We map description with replace from AI config, with the teak care line from a merged care sheet passed to the AI config as additional context, and add an exclude filter on the Google feed, season is equal to winter, to keep the bench out of off-season ads.
Task chair: ranges, not adjectives
Before
Ergonomic office chair for all-day comfort.
After
Mesh task chair with seat height 42-53 cm, seat depth adjustable by 5 cm, 4D armrests and adjustable lumbar support. Rated for users up to 120 kg. Nylon base, mesh back, foam seat in recycled polyester. Five parts: base, cylinder, seat, back, arms. About 10 minutes, no tools beyond the included key.
How we set it up
We map description with an advanced rule that builds the specification sentence from range fields ([seat_height_min] + "-" + [seat_height_max] + " cm"); product_detail columns carry the same values so Google can show them as structured details.
Bookcase translated with metric details intact
Before
Tall oak bookcase, 5 shelves. 80 x 30 x 190 cm.
After
How we set it up
We set up an AI config that enhances the description with target language Swedish, with shelf load, adjustment step and assembly time as additional context. Swedish is a supported target language; the Swedish feed maps description from the AI config and falls back to the English text.

Plan: furniture descriptions for every SKU
Dimensions and assembly are data problems before they are writing problems.
01
Find out which measurements you actually have
Check the share of products with width, depth, height, weight and assembly data, and whether units are mixed (cm in one column, inches in another).
What we set up: We run feed hygiene's completeness and value consistency checks on the measurement columns.02
Join the supplier spec sheet
Box sizes, assembly times and load ratings usually come from the supplier. Join their sheet by SKU, including a column for the second unit system.
What we set up: We join the supplier's Google Sheet or CSV as a merged source, keyed on SKU.03
Write the dimension sentence as a template
Measurements must be exact, so build that line with an expression rather than asking AI to restate numbers.
What we set up: We write the dimension line as an advanced rule.04
Let AI write the materials and feel
Pass the dimension line, material and finish as context and review the generations before accepting them.
What we set up: We set up an AI config that enhances descriptions and review the generations with you before accepting them.05
Publish with structured details too
Map product_detail for Google alongside the description, and push the same description to the Meta catalog.
What we set up: We build the Google Shopping and Meta Ads feeds and map product_detail as a combine.
Customization tips
Make it yours
Numbers by template, prose by AI
A model can restate 180 cm as 70 inches when the right figure is 71. Keep every measurement in a template line built from fields and let AI handle the materials and the feel. The cost is a slightly more mechanical first sentence.
Lead with the deciding measurement
For a sofa it is width and seat depth, for a bed frame the mattress size, for a desk the height. Put that first in the description, since ads and listings cut the rest.
Say "veneer" when it is veneer
Calling oak veneer over MDF "oak" earns returns and reviews about it. Precise material language also helps the shoppers who search for "solid wood" find the pieces that are.
Assembly honesty sells flat-pack
"Two hours, two people, wall fixing required" deters a few buyers and saves you the ones who would have returned the wardrobe in its boxes.
FAQ
Questions about product description examples for furniture
What should a furniture product description include?
Overall dimensions in the shopper's units, the measurement that decides fit (seat height, clearance, mattress size), materials and finish stated precisely, care, and how it arrives: assembled or flat-packed, number of boxes, tools, time and people needed.
Should furniture descriptions use inches or centimeters?
The market's unit first and the other in brackets: inches with centimeters for the US, centimeters for Europe. Keep both in product fields so templates can print either without converting by hand.
How long should a furniture description be?
Most furniture descriptions work at 80 to 200 words: one sentence of size, one or two of materials and finish, one of assembly and delivery, plus care. Google Shopping allows up to 5,000 characters, but the first sentence matters most.
Can I generate furniture descriptions for thousands of SKUs?
Yes. Keep measurements in fields and print them with a template so they stay exact, then use an AI config for the materials and style text, reviewing the generations before they are used in the feed.
